by John Wiltshier (Miyagi Gakuin Women’s University) If we see great teachers teach the classes always run so smoothly. The teacher enjoys teaching and children enjoy learning. Such smooth classroom management is created at the lesson planning stage. Thinking beyond the typical lesson plan components of time, activity and resources to consider lesson flow and anchoring is necessary to improve classroom management. Participants in this presentation will draw lesson flow diagrams to help analyze their own classes and will be shown how to identify positive and negative anchors that currently exist in their classrooms. May 28th Program Session I 14:00 - 15:20 - Featured Speaker Presentation Mark Shrosbree Tokai University Title: Computer Skills for Language Teachers: Tips, Tricks and Techniques With the wide range of technologies now available, it can be difficult for teachers to choose applications, which are suitable for their teaching situation. As a result, many teachers feel uncomfortable with technology, and avoid even the simple applications that can greatly enhance both course management and pedagogy. This workshop will introduce some simple ideas, which require only basic computer skills. Depending on the requirements of participants, the following areas will be covered: attendance sheets; photo grading sheets; systems for pairing up students; simple video lessons; making handouts; poster presentations. The brain loves rhythm and music and this leads to very fast memory. Teachers will learn how to create and perform Jazz Chants which are based on the powerful rhythm of American Jazz. This rhythm is exactly the same as the beat of spoken American English. Ms. Graham will present materials suitable for students of all ages and will describe step by step how to create and perform a Jazz Chant.
